Day 1

Mildura → Port Augusta

  1. Renmark Last big fuel stop on the Murray before the dry country.
  2. Burra Heritage mining town with bakeries and a long main street, easy to park a trailer.
  3. Port Augusta Night 1. Fill up here: next proper fuel is Iron Knob and Kimba. Check WikiCamps for a cheap park or a pub that lets you camp.
Day 2

Port Augusta → Penong

  1. Kimba The Big Galah. Halfway across Eyre Peninsula, good lunch break.
  2. Wudinna
  3. Ceduna Last big town and fuel before the Nullarbor. Big4 park here was around $30 a night in 2017, so check the price.
  4. Penong Night 2. Free camp at the old Cohen school site on the highway, big enough for a trailer. Cactus Beach is 21 km of gravel off here: pretty, but a rough tow behind a trike, so ask locals about the road first.
Day 3

Penong → Cocklebiddy

691 km 7h 5m 1 lookout
  1. Nullarbor Roadhouse Fuel stop. Pin sits on the highway just east of the roadhouse.
  2. Border Village Fuel and the quarantine check: no fruit or veg across the border. Free camps on the dirt tracks by the Bight just before, with whale-watching in season.
  3. Eucla Old telegraph station ruins in the dunes. The clocks go forward 1h45 here.
  4. Madura Madura Pass lookout. Riders in the group rate Madura, Eucla and Fraser Range for camping.
  5. Cocklebiddy Night 3. Free camp on the maze of tracks near the roadhouse, plenty of room for a trailer. Fuel here in the morning.
Day 4

Cocklebiddy → Norseman

441 km 4h 33m 2 km gravel
  1. Caiguna
  2. Balladonia Free museum with the Skylab story. Afghan Rock rest stop a few minutes away is a small free camp.
  3. Norseman Night 4. End of the Nullarbor. Salmon Gums community park, about an hour south-east towards Esperance, was around $15-20 a night in 2017 if you want a quieter cheap camp.
Day 5

Norseman → Hyden

  1. Hyden Night 5. Wave Rock. Ring ahead and check prices at the caravan park by the rock.

Hyden → Margaret River
