Day 1

Sydney → Cooma Snowy Mountains Tourist Park

  1. Berrima Sandstone village just off the highway. Bakery and cafes, a good first break.
  2. Goulburn
  3. Braidwood Heritage main street, bakeries and a servo. Last big town before the high country.
  4. Lions Lookout Over Cooma and the Monaro plains. Short climb from town.
  5. Cooma Snowy Mountains Tourist Park Night 1. Tent sites on the edge of town. Ring ahead to confirm and book. This is the longest day, so leave early.
Day 2

Cooma Snowy Mountains Tourist Park → Khancoban Lakeside Caravan Park

256 km 3h 58m 1 km gravel 4 lookouts
  1. Carter Lookout Over Lake Jindabyne from the Kosciuszko Road. Fuel up in Jindabyne first.
  2. Charlotte Pass Lookout The highest sealed road in the country, an out-and-back from Perisher. Closed in winter, so check the National Parks alerts before you go.
  3. Pilot View Lookout On the Alpine Way past Thredbo and Dead Horse Gap. Cold and exposed, bring layers.
  4. Scammells Ridge Lookout Last big view before the descent to Khancoban. Fuel is only at Jindabyne, Thredbo and Khancoban.
  5. Khancoban Lakeside Caravan Park Night 2. Lakeside park with tent sites. Ring ahead to confirm and book. Geehi campground is the National Parks alternative.
Day 3

Khancoban Lakeside Caravan Park → Blowering Caravan Park

227 km 3h 30m 14 km gravel 3 lookouts
  1. Murray 1 Power Station Viewing Point On the climb out of Khancoban. Steep, tight sealed road with few places to pass.
  2. Cabramurra Lookout The highest town in Australia. Small shop, no fuel to count on.
  3. Bluff Lookout Near Yarrangobilly on the Snowy Mountains Highway. Sweeping bends either side.
  4. Talbingo Small town on the reservoir. Last fuel before Tumut.
  5. Tumut
  6. Blowering Caravan Park Night 3. Park on the lake just out of Tumut. Ring ahead to confirm and book.

Blowering Caravan Park → Sydney
